The City Born Great by N.K. Jemisin5/21/2023 ![]() ![]() Still it is well written and a short piece, so it’s worth the time you invest to check it out. This story was very well done just like all her other writings, however I don’t think it has as much impact if you have already read “The City We Becameâ€. Jemisin is an amazing author and this was incredibly well written with amazing concepts. Yes, it does fill in a bit of background and I do really enjoy the concepts behind this. However, if you have already read the first book in the The Great Cities Trilogy “The City We Became†this feels more like a sketch of that one. Thoughts: This would be a great stand alone story and has some amazing concepts. I borrowed this as an audiobook from the libraryĪudiobook Quality (4/5): The audiobook was well done and easy to listen to, I enjoyed it. Series Info/Source: This is a prequel to The Great Cities Trilogy. ![]()

The lowland by jhumpa lahiri book review5/21/2023 ![]() ![]() His good behavior does little to ease his suffering, however. While he often bemoans his own ordinariness and instinct to be dutiful in contrast to Udayan's rakish charm, when he marries, he becomes a sort of Everydad hero, providing for his family and caring for his daughter. While some of the characters in The Lowland spiral toward violence, bitterness or selfishness, Subhash grows increasingly conscientious and self-sacrificing. ![]() The only thing he’d altered was what their family had been.” Catastrophic circumstances force Subhash to make a long-delayed return to India, where he decides that Udayan has contributed “to a movement that had been misguided, that had caused only damage, that had been ruthlessly dismantled. ![]()
